Floyd and Nealie Kitchen Kees lived in Martinsburg's Boomtown Historic District
On her father’s side, Nealie Kitchen Kees was a great-granddaughter of Congressman Bethuel Middleton Kitchen. Her father’s parents, both of Kitchen ancestry, were first cousins once removed.
Lelia "Nealie" May Kitchen was born in Berkeley County in 1901.
Her father, Frank, was a building contractor in Jones Springs.
On her father’s side, she was a great-granddaughter of Congressman Bethuel Middleton Kitchen. Her father’s parents, both of Kitchen ancestry, were first cousins once removed.
On her mother’s side, her ancestor were prominent in the county as well. Her maternal grandfather, R. Tilberry Files, who owned a large stone house near Jones Springs, was said to have owned the first car in Back Creek Valley, a Ford Model-T.
Her ancestry also included Buzzard, Stone, Gano, Hensel, Slonaker and Barrett.
In 1921, she married Floyd Landis Kees. They were both 20.
